Responsibilities:
- Contribute to the existing and novel projects, scale up of results and executing the optimization of reaction/performance conditions for the extraction of functional plant components.
- Plan and assign tasks to laboratory technicians and establish target dates and priorities.
- Interpret results, evaluate data and draw relevant conclusions.
- Troubleshoot problems with manufacturing processes.
- Supervise and train technical personnel to perform experiments following standard protocols.
- Contribute to the optimization of project related scientific/technical activities and processes within function.
- Act as a cross-functional team member and/or lead local multi-disciplinary project team.
- Evaluate new scientific technologies, platforms and procedures.
Qualifications:
- Master’s or PhD degree in Chemistry, Food Chemistry, Food Technology, Biotechnology or Chemical Engineering.
- 1-3 years relevant experience in food industry.
- Deep knowledge in plant chemistry.
- Experience with the protein extraction, protein characterization, and product formulation.
- Structured analytical thinking. Independent, proactive, goal-oriented, creative and persistent: You thrive in challenging situations and you are not discouraged by failure.
- Ability to adapt and learn fast, while working in a small but dynamic team.
- Efficiently communicating and reporting on results.
- Very good communication skills in oral and written English is a requirement for this position.
Responsibilities:
- Perform experiments according to established protocols using a small and a pilot-scale reactors for the production of prebiotics from a variety of feedstocks.
- Establish new protocols for analytical detection of complex carbohydrates.
- Develop the methods of chromatographic separation for different types of plant molecules (HPLC, ICS).
- Perform qualitative and quantitative analytical studies.
- Document the results of the experiments and prepare clear presentations to highlight differences.
- Work flexibly and responsibly within the team to maintain the equipment.
- Propose and implement improvements to optimise the capability and capacity of our systems.
Qualifications:
- Basic education as a chemistry laboratory technician is necessary.
- Good knowledge in the development of separation methods in HLPC and GC.
- High level of commitment and capability to work independently.
- Ability and experience to build networks within the team, the department and with other functions.
- Good conversational command of English. Fluency in French is a plus.
- Knowledge of analytic methods in carbohydrates is an asset.
- Knowledge of Microsoft applications, such as Word and Excel, and ability to learn new systems quickly.

Embion is offering multiple internship positions in the field of food chemistry and chemical engineering.
Responsibilities
- Join Embion’s prebiotics development team where you will familiarize with the concept of prebiotics and its importance for the microbiome
- Train in new methods of production of such ingredients and acquire expertise in analytical techniques and characterization as well as laboratory management.
- Work as an equal member of a small, dynamic start-up team. That does, however, include from your part dedication, commitment, resilience, and the ability to handle problems with a certain degree of independence, while showing a proactive and collaborative spirit.
Qualifications and experience:
- Bachelor degree or Master’s degree (or completing last year in Master degree) in Chemistry, Food Chemistry, Food Technology, Biotechnology or Chemical Engineering.
- Prior hands-on experience in chemistry or biotechnology laboratory is a must.
- Knowledge in carbohydrate chemistry and hydrolysis processes is an asset.

As our multicultural team grows, we are looking for a Senior R&D Specialist to join our Product Development team and drive R&D project work for innovation in new plant-based nutritional products.

Key job responsibilities:
- Lead technical streams of product development projects
- Plan and perform experiments in projects based on sound scientific hypotheses, good laboratory practices, and continuous improvement mindset
- Drive the evaluation of ingredient prototypes performance as such, and in applications
- Support external scientific studies with selected partners, e.g. CROs
- Deliver strong contribution to project data analysis and results interpretation
- Report / communicate results effectively to other members of the project team, including external partners such as customers, as required
- Meet and manage project technical activities timelines and deliverables
- Support ingredient production process upscaling and industrialization workstreams
- Collaborate with the Product Development team and other functions, technical and beyond
- Build and maintain knowledge and expertise in relevant science & technology areas
- Develop and coach junior R&D collaborators
- Contribute to new ideas generation for the company’s ingredient product innovation pipeline
- Lead by example to ensure high laboratory work quality, including instrument maintenance
- And last but not least ensuring also to reduce hazards, and maximize safety and health of self and others, as well as environment protection
Desired qualifications:
- PhD degree in Food Science & Technology, Material Science, Biotechnology, Chemistry, or Chemical Engineering; alternatively a Master’s degree in such disciplines complemented with a significant experience in a R&D environment together with strong achievements
- At least 4-6 years of relevant experience in Food & Beverages, or Nutrition & Health industry.
- Previous experience with plant materials, active molecules extraction, and characterization is desired
- Strong product analytical skills is required, e.g. size exclusion chromatography techniques, HPLC, ion chromatography, mass spectroscopy, particle size distribution, powder performance, shelf-life studies
- Knowledge of ingredient formulation technologies for successful applications in food and nutrition is a strong plus
- Experience with processing equipment’s at pilot scale is also beneficial
- Good understanding of product development steps and process
- Strong competences in technical project management
- Fluent in English (written and oral); French is a plus
