Embion commercializes the next generation in biomass processing technology to meet the planet’s growing demand in nutrition, materials and energy. Our aim is to become the technology leader for producing natural, sustainable, low emissions and high functionality products from biomass across all industries, starting with nutrition, where our team develops, produces and markets the next generation of bioactive nutritional ingredients for humans and animals.

As our team grows, we are looking for an experienced Commercial Director with both strategic and operational experience and appetite to work closely with the CEO and executive team of Embion in order to build and expand our business.

Responsibilities:

 

  • Deliver the top line revenue target. Develop and implement sales strategy plan and operations.
  • Prospect leads, identify and develop new business and growth opportunities globally. Initiate, negotiate and close new deals.
  • Build new value propositions based on customer insights and market trends through a keen intuition of Embion’s platform technology capabilities.
  • Liase with technology and product teams to develop new concepts that drive innovation investments.
  • Conduct and report on market and competitive ecosystem research; functional nutritional ingredients (e.g. prebiotics, probiotics, flavors, etc.) for food, personal care, feed, etc. as well as technologies to derive them as intellectual playground.
  • Quantify markets, map their segmentation and contribute in marketing efforts.
  • Represent Embion in events around the world as necessary. Ability and flexibility to travel.
  • Play a core role as a co-pilot with the CEO on the Embion Management committee – setting Embion’s directions and delivering its KPIs.

Qualifications:

 

  • Minimum 10+ years of commercial experience and excellent track record within the nutrition, ingredients and/or pharma industry such as flavors, enzyme or other relevant industry. Results oriented with demonstrated performance in sales, sales operations, customer service, sales management and other customer facing operations.
  • Graduate degree (BSc, MSc) in business, life science or health care. Engineering, biotechnology or other scientific and technical background a plus.
  • Passionate team player, taking initiative and responsibility for the growth of the business. Enthusiasm and energy about contributing to Embion’s mission.
  • Very strong familiarity with the related industries and its key customers. Solid market understanding and customer insights.
  • Must exhibit strong experience developing, implementing, executing and measuring success of account plans. Outstanding negotiation skills and proven track record in negotiating complex commercial deals.
  • Excellent analytical, reasoning, and problem-solving skills. Able to work and to thrive in a fast-paced environment.
  • Exposure working in a startup environment is a plus and strong apettite to support the founding team in growing the business.
  • Strong technology acumen and proven capability to interact with cross functional teams.
  • Excellent general communication skills and strong verbal and written English skills are required. Other languages are a plus.

Responsibilities:

 

  • Contribute to the existing and novel projects related to polymer and composite formulation.
  • Plan and assign tasks to subordinates or team members and establish target dates and priorities.
  • Interpret results, evaluate data and draw relevant conclusions.
  • Troubleshoot problems with manufacturing processes.
  • Supervise and train technical personnel to perform experiments following standard protocols.
  • Contribute to the optimization of project related scientific/technical activities and processes within function.
  • Act as a cross-functional team member and/or lead local multi-disciplinary project team.
  • Evaluate new scientific technologies, platforms and procedures.

Qualifications:

 

  • 7-10 years working experience in industry with focus on polymer science is a must.
  • Master’s or PhD degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Material Science.
  • Deep knowledge in polymer chemistry.
  • Experience with suspension polymerization, dispersion polymerization, formulation of solid materials.
  • Experience with size specific materials engineering and coating methods is preferable.

  • Ability to adapt and learn fast, while working in a small but dynamic team.
  • Efficiently communicating and reporting on results.

  • Plan and assign tasks to laboratory technicians and establish target dates and priorities.

Qualifications:

 

  • Master’s or PhD degree in Chemistry, Food Chemistry, Food Technology, Biotechnology or Chemical Engineering.
  • 1-3 years relevant experience in food industry.
  • Deep knowledge in plant chemistry.
  • Experience with the protein extraction, protein characterization, and product formulation.

  • Ability to adapt and learn fast, while working in a small but dynamic team.
  • Efficiently communicating and reporting on results.

Responsibilities:

 

  • Perform experiments according to established protocols using a small and a pilot-scale reactors for the production of prebiotics from a variety of feedstocks.
  • Establish new protocols for analytical detection of complex carbohydrates.
  • Develop the methods of chromatographic separation for different types of plant molecules (HPLC, ICS).
  • Perform qualitative and quantitative analytical studies.
  • Document the results of the experiments and prepare clear presentations to highlight differences.
  • Work flexibly and responsibly within the team to maintain the equipment.
  • Propose and implement improvements to optimise the capability and capacity of our systems.

Qualifications:

 

  • Basic education as a chemistry laboratory technician is necessary.
  • Good knowledge in the development of separation methods in HLPC and GC.
  • High level of commitment and capability to work independently.
  • Ability and experience to build networks within the team, the department and with other functions.
  • Good conversational command of English. Fluency in French is a plus.
  • Knowledge of analytic methods in carbohydrates is an asset.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft applications, such as Word and Excel, and ability to learn new systems quickly.

Embion is offering multiple internship positions in the field of food chemistry and chemical engineering.

Responsibilities

 

  • Join Embion’s prebiotics development team where you will familiarize with the concept of prebiotics and its importance for the microbiome
  • Train in new methods of production of such ingredients and acquire expertise in analytical techniques and characterization as well as laboratory management.
  • Work as an equal member of a small, dynamic start-up team. That does, however, include from your part dedication, commitment, resilience, and the ability to handle problems with a certain degree of independence, while showing a proactive and collaborative spirit.

Qualifications and experience:

 

  • Bachelor degree or Master’s degree (or completing last year in Master degree) in Chemistry, Food Chemistry, Food Technology, Biotechnology or Chemical Engineering.
  • Prior hands-on experience in chemistry or biotechnology laboratory is a must.
  • Knowledge in carbohydrate chemistry and hydrolysis processes is an asset.

As our team grows, we are looking for an experienced Product Development Leader who will drive the front end innovation platform with our Research Team and support the generation of the new plant-based nutritional products.  

Responsibilities:

 

  • Drive new product development from idea through concept into industrialisation - along with the product road map into industrial scale and into customer products across countries and regions
  • Lead and manage cross-functional team members to execute effective product launches from concept to delivery
  • Leverage fundamental scientific principles in combination with creativity and novel product development thinking
  • Support technical development and leverage state of the art methods to improve process efficiency and effectiveness
  • Meet and manage project timelines and project deliverables
  • Coordinate and organize shelf life/stability testing, regulatory aspects, and other key technical project deliverables
  • Assist ingredient evaluation including information on functionality and application

Qualifications:

 

  • Master’s or PhD degree in Chemistry, Food Chemistry, Food Technology, Biotechnology or Chemical Engineering
  • At least 5-7 years of appropriate experience in F&B or adjacent industry
  • Proven new product launches from concept stage through commercialization with in-market success record
  • Advanced technical, manufacturing and processing experience and capabilities
  • Worked with natural plant-based ingredients (characterization, extraction, and formulations/product assembly)
  • Open minded with a strong problem-solving mindset
