About us

Embion is a Green Chemistry spin-off of the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Lausanne (EPFL). Embion commercializes novel ingredients extracted from low-value natural resources such as plant residues from agriculture or food processing byproducts. We are committed in delivering products that meet high quality standards in a sustainable way. Embion’s platform technology allows to diversify from the use of fossil fuels and to meet demand for functional and healthy food ingredients.

Georgios Savoglidis

Co-founder & CEO

Georgios combines over 10 years technology experience in biotech and chemical engineering in the bio-renewables field with over 10 years business experience in various activities within his family’s SME. He holds a PhD in Chemical Engineering.

Sviatlana Siankevich

Co-founder & CTO

Sviatlana brings over 10 years of technology expertise in biomass valorization, having worked with technologies ranging from enzymes and fermentation to chemical synthesis and catalytic fractionation. She holds a PhD in Chemistry, an MSc in Chemical Engineering and a Diploma in Ecology.

Strategy & Business Development

Mark brings over 20 years of commercial experience in agricultural, food ingredients and polymers businesses in both large and small organizations around the world. Outside of Embion, Mark is an innovation and business management consultant.

Alex du Sartel

Corporate & Legal

As a corporate lawyer for 12 years in the U.S and 5 years in Switzerland, Alex brings expertise in corporate law, international M&A, strategic transactions and management in life science and renewable energy companies such as bioMerieux, Silliker, Amyris and Becton Dickinson. Alex is a mentor at EPFL Alumni program.

Georgios Fengos

Co-founder & R&D Catalyst Design

Georgios brings over 10 years of research experience in the computer-aided design of biocatalysts through statistical, machine-learning and model-based methods. He has a PhD in Systems Biology and Bioinformatics and a Diploma in Chemical Engineering.

Paul Dyson

Co-founder & Scientific Advisor – Chemistry

Paul is a full professor in the Institute of Chemical Sciences and Engineering at EPFL with over 25 years of research experience in catalysis. He has over 500 publications, numerous patents and commercialized products and processes. He has also won several prestigious prizes.

Craig Myers

Advisor – Operations & Supply Chain

Craig brings over 25 years experience 20+ years experience in xylose, xylitol, lactitol, rhamnose, mannose, and other rare sugar production for multi-site, multi product, global business, including leading teams on evaluation of multiple biomass options for extraction and commercial production of C5 sugars and other rare sugars.
